Beyond Standard is an online publication showcasing the United States’ partnership with CERN and contributions to the Large Hadron Collider research program. We cover the scientists, the experiments, the open questions, and the quiet persistence it takes to chase what lies beyond the established laws of physics.
The Standard Model is an amazing achievement, yet leaves the biggest questions unanswered. The search for what lies beyond is one of humanity’s greatest quests—and a story that deserves to be told with wonder, not jargon.

Our story
Beyond Standard began in 2026 as a way for the US particle physics community to share their stories, research, opinions and perspectives with colleagues, students and the larger STEM-interested public.
Our editorial team works directly with researchers to create content that not only clearly explains the science, but gives the reader a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world’s biggest experiments. This is because we believe that the most interesting thing about a detector the size of a cathedral is the students, engineers and scientists who build and operate it.
We publish features, explainers, opinions, Q&As and other storytelling from the US universities and national laboratories collaborating on the Large Hadron Collider research program at CERN—curating the frontier of high energy physics for anyone willing to wonder alongside us.
